Jeff, Joe and Kit are planning to depart Wellington, NZ, on 12 Jan (weather permitting) and will head for Opua, NZ, Lord Howe Island then Sydney. Tania and the boys will take the comfortable trip home (business class thank you!) and meet the guys in Sydney. It is anticipated that the trans-Tasman sail will take aproximately 3 weeks (give or take) so come early Feb there should be 3 smelly guys sailing into Sydney Harbour! At this point (post shower!) Jeff, Tania and boys will set off on a 5 month adventure to Townsville, through what we hope to be some of the most beautiful sailing areas in the world. The boys will be homeschooled (Lord help us), but hopefully life experience will far outweigh what the school playground could offer.
Still need to get Cat1 classification - need medical stores, hull survey, antifoul, spares, deviation card and some minor repairs.
We've replaced standing rigging, including the installation of a removable inner forestay for the storm jib. All the running rigging has been brought back to the cockpit so we can reef or drop sail without leaving the relative safety of the cockpit. Installed holding tank for our time on the reef and in marinas. Replaced most of the wiring (thanks Pete!). Replaced the saildrive. Now we are broke whilst the local rigger and mechanic have bought themselves new utes...
We're still more excited than nervous at the moment, but this will undoubtedly change as we get closer to The Day!
