Browns Bay and Brisbane

11 April

We motor sailed from the Gold Coast and stopped overnight at Browns Bay. There was an interesting mix of bush and urban scenery and was a maze of shallow river systems.

12 April

We had a slight hiccup today when we ran aground on a mudbank 5 minutes after pulling the anchor up … BAD. The tide was still going out for another hour … double BAD. The steady current and wind were pushing us further onto the mudbank … triple BAD! 4 hours later with rising tide we kedged off with two anchors, a totally exhausting procedure. Thankfully the rest of the trip was uneventful on a beautiful day … GOOD!

It took a while to get up the river and into Brisbane city, and it was well and truly dark by the time we reached our anchorage, but with all the city lights it was a beautiful cruise. We are currently anchored opposite the botanical gardens and will be here for a few days yet until the strong coastal winds subside. In the meantime we are catching up with friends, checking out this gorgeous city and generally chilling out!

Over and out ...
Tania

PS: Happy Birthday Mum/Nana for the 12th

I was just in Brisbane - only got back 2 days ago!! And I even ate lunch in the Botanic Gardens one day looking out over all the boats anchored there! Would have been lovely to catch up for coffee!
