18 June – to Shaw Is

Very rolly night, and stern anchor didn’t work due to 6m tidal variation, so headed off in search of a calm anchorage.

Motorsailed to Burning Point on Shaw Is. Had a great time ashore today. We invented what we call ‘The Wiki Tiki Treasure Hunt’ (Wiki Tiki’s are scary creatures off a Scooby-Doo episode) and Jeff spent a long time setting up the hunt and preparing the clues. The boys had to find their way from spot to spot following Jeff’s clues, but before they could move on they had to answer some questions (basic math, spelling etc). This all ended in digging up some treasure (chocolate money) under an X. The kids had a ball, and we did too! We got a little bit on camera before the battery died, but it gives you an idea of it anyway.

Unfortunately the day ended pretty tragically. Whilst running the engine to charge the battery, with the throttle in idle reverse, Jack bumped the throttle into full reverse. I don’t know who freaked more, Jack or Jeff (probably Jeff as he is the one who paid for the new motor). Anyway, the motor is now making a terrible clanking noise. Not good. Really hoping the fairies will fix that whilst we sleep.

Over and out …
Tania
