23 June – leaving Airlie

We had a fabulous weekend chilling out in Airlie. We spent most of the time watching the kids at the playground, or hanging around the local public lagoon. The kids had a ball of a time and we all felt a little less stressed about the motor.

On a walk to check out the local marina we passed a significant amount of boat debris along the waterline, and were informed these were the remains of a number of boats smashed onto the rocks during the storm that hit on 11 Feb this year. Quite a sobering view and not a fate we would like for Catana.

Monday morning started well with the motor appearing to have fixed itself (guess the fairies came after all). So after filling up with water, restocking the cupboards and confirming with the mechanic over the phone that the smoke was probably just excess fuel burning off, we were off again. Yay.

We departed for Tongue Bay in 20-25kt S/SE – great lively sailing with 2 reefs. We almost lost the tender when it flipped whilst being towed behind the boat. Normally not too drastic (has happened before), but this time it kept dragging under the water. This put an enormous strain on the cleat and took some effort to lift the tender from under the water and secure it. Life is never dull on a boat!

We decided that sailing to Tongue Bay was going to mean very late anchoring so diverted to CID harbour.

Over and out …
Tania
